According to a National Highway Traffic Safety Management (NHTSA) release. The recall affects 143,053 2018-2021 Atlas and 2020 Atlas Cross Sport vehicles.

Volkswagen advises is:

Volkswagen warns that faulty wiring could cause the person’s motion detection system to miss someone in the front passenger seat and deactivate the airbag.

What Volkswagen is currently working on

“Owners should not allow anybody to sit in the front passenger seat till the free recall. Fix is developed and completed,” the release stated. “Volkswagen is currently working on a fix and will inform impacted owners as soon as it is available.”

Volkswagen claims that a faulty passenger occupant detection method. PODS, will result in an error message and an alert sound.

Volkswagen will notify owners by post, but you can also find out if your motor is under recall. By entering your 17-character VIN at NHTSA.gov/recalls or calling the NHTSA’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at (888)327-4236.
