H3N2 Virus Symptoms: How Can You Prevent Flu in Your Children ?
Symptoms of the H3N2 virus: Physicians have noted a concerning increase in H3N2 cases among children, particularly those under the age of 5. According to media reports, ICUs in Delhi and Pune have also accepted newborns and young children.

The typical H3N2 infection symptoms include fever, diarrhoea, vomiting, body aches, cough, cold, and diarrhoea.
When it becomes complicated, it can cause ear infections, pneumonia, and in the worst cases, severe respiratory distress requiring oxygen and a ventilator at times.
Dr. Amita Kaul, HOD & Senior Consultant Paediatrics, Surya Mother & Child Super Speciality Hospital, Pune, stated that children who have asthma and other concomitant disorders like obesity, lung disease, neurological issues, and heart ailments are at a higher risk.
A severe case may include convulsions, sleepiness, vomiting, loose stools, coughing, and fever of 104–105 F. Typically, symptoms persist 5-7 days. Some people may also experience a cough that lasts for a longer time.
It is advisable to see your paediatrician if the cough lasts more than a week. Avoid overusing over-the-counter cough medicine in children under the age of six.
Reduced immunity is the main cause of the increase
Because to Covid-19, we were significantly less exposed to H3N2 over the past two winters. The inadequate flu vaccination rate is another factor contributing to the increase.
Children can prevent the illness by obtaining enough sleep, drinking more fluids, and varying their diet to incorporate micronutrients.
Mild sponging should be used in cases of fever, and parents should provide children a meal strong in protein. Frequent use of fever-relieving medications can harm kidney function. Avoiding crowded areas while going outside is crucial, and if they must, they must do so while wearing a mask.
The medical professionals also recommended that individuals use masks, wash their hands frequently, and avoid congested areas where the infection might spread quickly.
