Afghan cricket fans celebrated the historic victory on social media.

With five key players rested for the series – skipper Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Fakhar Zaman, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Haris Rauf – Pakistan gave T20I debuts to Saim Ayub, Tayyab Tahir, Ihsanullah, and Zaman Khan.

However, only a few Pakistan batters were capable of accelerating on a two-paced pitch and were mostly dismissed softly. In the absence of stalwart openers Azam and Rizwan, replacements Ayub and Mohammad Haris were unable to judge the reduced bounce and fell within the batting power play while trying extravagant shots.

Azmatullah Omarzai pinned Abdullah Shafique for 0 and Tayyab Tahir, one of four Pakistan debutants, threw a return catch to Rashid Khan. Pakistan was 41-5 in the eighth over when Azam Khan was also out for a duck.
